Confidence & Assertiveness – CBT-Informed Tutor Time Resource
A ready-to-use Tutor Time resource using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)-informed approach to help students develop confidence, assertiveness and greater awareness of the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
The session introduces students to the idea that low confidence and difficulties with assertiveness can influence emotions and behaviour. It then guides students through simple, practical strategies that can help them manage anxious feelings, respond more confidently and feel more in control of everyday situations.
What’s Included?
A clear introduction to the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
A video-based activity exploring confidence and assertiveness.
Practical strategies to help students respond to situations with greater confidence.
Reflection questions encouraging students to consider their own experiences and identify areas for development.
Opportunities to discuss how small changes in thinking and behaviour can support greater confidence and reduced anxiety.
Delivery Guidance
The session is designed to be snappy and focused, as the accompanying video runs for approximately 9 minutes. Tutors should allow time for brief discussion and reflection before and after the video.
The resource can be particularly useful for students who frequently experience low confidence, self-doubt or anxious feelings, while remaining appropriate for wider tutor-group discussion.
