A structured 10 day sentence writing intervention for EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 children who need support developing complete sentences independently.

Stage 2 builds on Subject and Verb from Stage 1 and introduces one new sentence element: the Object.

Children develop the structure:

Subject + Verb + Object

For example:

The dog chased the ball.

By introducing one new element at a time, children can develop their understanding of sentence structure without being overwhelmed by too many writing expectations at once.

A SIMPLE, CONSISTENT DAILY APPROACH

Each day children follow the same supportive routine:

• Write it
• Review it
• Improve it
• Self Mark

The repeated structure allows children to become familiar with the process so they can increasingly focus on the quality and structure of their sentence.

Stage 2 forms part of the wider Every Day Sentence Builder programme, which gradually develops children’s writing through progressive stages.

Children do not have to begin at Stage 1. The Starting Point assessment, alongside your knowledge of the child, can help you identify the most appropriate stage.
