“Peaceful protest or militant action – which really won women the vote?” That’s the question at the heart of this lesson, as students explore the contrasting methods of the Suffragists and the Suffragettes.

This is the seventh lesson of a 9-lesson unit on Votes for Women; it also works well as a standalone lesson. It focuses on the differences and similarities between the Suffragists and Suffragettes, encouraging students to use knowledge and sources while developing their writing skills.

Learning Objectives:
LO1: To identify the differences between Suffragists and Suffragettes.
LO2: To evaluate which group was the most effective.

Lesson Features:
Three interactive tasks based on levels of difficulty.
The third task always involves extended writing following the GCSE framework.
Group/class assessed tasks, plus an individual task allowing teacher one-to-one support.
A quiz to consolidate knowledge.
An extension task for challenge and stretch.
Homework, reading resources, and task templates are all included.

Resource Info:
This lesson is ideal for Year 8 students (end of year) and is fully prepared as a slideshow.
