Erm, this video is about personal hygiene, not fractions?
This video is very useful. I disagree with some previous posts. When she talks about 1/5, 1 is divided by 5. it is one-fifths of a whole. Fractions also represents part of a set, so she could also represents 1/5 as 1 part of 5 parts. The fractions also represent division, 3/8 for example, represents 3 divided by 8 (as previously mentioned above), as equal sharing between. It might also represents the result of sharing 3 bars of chocolate between 8 people. It can also be said that 3/8 is 'divide 3 units by 8'. So the symbols 3/8 represent both an instruction to perform an operation and the result of performing it. If we look at a Fraction wall, this is very clear.
Thanks for sharing.
@ robbobisaac ; i do agree with what you've said because she makes it sound like the 1/3 is one divided into 3 , rather than one of the three parts into which the whole paper has been divided into. I guess it's about being careful with what we say and how we explain concepts. a good physical activity tp get chn started on fractions though
Great representation ideas.
