This presentation introduces the artwork of German abstract artist Franz Ackermann. It was originally created to support Year 8 KS3 pupils working on a home learning project on globalisation within our culture and its influence on Art.
Franz Ackermann travels frequently, and wherever he goes, he makes small drawings and paintings that he calls ''mental maps.'' Back at home, he converts his mental maps into large paintings which use solid, brightly coloured shapes and high-impact graphics.
The presentation guides pupils through Ackermann's techniques and several examples of his work.
A practical task has been included where pupils must apply what they have learned about Ackermann's artwork to create their own piece of art in Ackermann's style using the outline sketch provided.
The presentation was originally supported by a Moodle-based on-screen assessment but it is not possible to upload such resources. Hopefully the presentation and practical activity will still be of interest and use.
