The aim of these resources is to explain the dangers of consumerism and explore ethical ways of spending. There is an emphasis on inequalities and global responsibility.

The main learning objectives are:
To recognise the dangers of consumerism to the environment and people
To consider spending habits and the concept of want versus need
To follow the journey of items from the source to our shops and homes
To understand the concept of carbon footprint and ways of reducing it
To realise the environmental impact from the resources needed to make clothes (water) and technology (mined minerals)
To explore the differences between the rich and the poor in society
To research ethical consumerism and Fairtrade
To think critically about spending habits and advertising

The resources contain a level of differentiation, mainly contained in extension activities in the green coloured boxes, as well as some options for activities, such as cooking with Fairtrade ingredients.

Our resources are aimed at age 9- 14 years old (Key Stages 2 & 3), and include differentiation. They support:

Teamwork
Experimentation
Empathy
