Whole Class Reading Text Overview Curriculum Map and Progression Term 1

Essential for any Reading lead preparing for Deep Dive and wanting to ensure a quality-first curriculum.

Every text for Years 3 to 6 whole class reading sessions for every week in Term 1 mapped to carefully sequenced progression of skills that cover and go beyond the national curriculum.

Each week has a theme that links the texts and threads through elements of our schools curriculum; this could of course be adapted for your own setting. These include class novels, texts linked to the wider curriculum, notable people, values, classics, modern novels, famous authors and more.

Most texts can be sourced for free via however others you would need to pay for yourself via a Twinkl or Literacy Shed Comprhension Plus subscription.

Some helpful links will take you to shared Google Drive presentations from which you may wish to snip questions and ideas for your own planning.

Our own planning typically follows a sequence that focuses on prosody and oracy for two days a week when texts are introduced then VIPERS core skills and other usually written/recorded responses on two days a week. One day a week is for guided or independent comprehension practice.
