This is from a series of posters I made for revision of the characters in The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. They each display quotes that would be useful to revise for the GCSE exam. This one is of Mr Hyde. I printed some out in A4 for my students but they look pretty good in A3 as eye-catching wall displays. This is from a series of posters I made for revision of the characters in Frankenstein. They each display quotes that would be useful to revise for the GCSE exam. This one is of Frankenstein’s Creature. I printed some out in A4 for my students but they look pretty good in A3 as eye-catching wall displays. Reproducing them in A5 is ideal for individual student revision booklets. Possible class activities include asking the students to link each of the quotes or comments to a given theme and then explaining why it is significant. Parts of the poster can be blanked out (using correction fluid and photocopying, or by uploading onto a Powerpoint slide and covering parts using shapes) and the students can then be asked to fill in the gaps. Alternatively, the posters can serve as inspiration for the students to create their own versions for other characters and/or texts. Follows KS3 lesson on forms of news. This focuses on tabloid and broadsheet differences.

This was aimed at able Y9s, but would suit a wide range of pupil abilities. The PowerPoint features the images required for the starter. Pupils were reading 'Al Capone Does My Shirts' at the time.

Fourth lesson (no Ppt this time - apostrophe starter used a copyrighted Ppt, so can't include...sorry). Will include more lessons once I've planned them!

This was initially delivered to a middle ability Y10 class who had studied Romeo and Juliet as part of their Literature course. You don't have to have done Romeo and Juliet, but my using the picture of Juliet in the crypt meant that it served as a little revision exercise too. Similarly, the lesson makes reference to a piece of descriptive writing the class had completed on Frankenstein - you can easily alter this to refer back to something you have done. The lesson refers specifically to assessment objectives and encourages variety in vocabulary choices and sentence openings. It was supposed to be for a 75 minute lesson but I found it could easily cover two one hour lessons. Lesson based around designing a video game for Coraline, improving on the existing game. Deals with audience and purpose, as well as colour connotations.

This poster is of Harrison and Lydia’s mother, who is unnamed but referred to by Harrison as Mamma. A5 prints make for really good individual student booklets, while producing A4 versions is ideal for general class use. If you’re wanting to display them, they look really good in A3. As well as display, these posters can be given as a task for students to build on the quotes, linking each one to specific themes in the novel and/or explaining why the trait of the character is significant. Another common use is to inspire students to make their own poster for other characters.
