This lesson is for mixed ability AS Level. It begins to examine Duffy’s The Map Woman, with tasks considering emerging theme, employment of poetic techniques and language analysis. The lesson encourages co-operative learning and group discussion. I also used a roll of wallpaper, with a silhouette of ‘the map woman’ for students to label.

Y3 MYP Literature and Language Animal Farm Unit Plan

(0)
Comprehensive MYP Y3 Unit Plan combines the exploration of the context of the Russian Revolution and Orwell’s novella Animal Farm to encourage students to interrogate the use of propaganda and consider the abuses of power in context and in response to their own perspectives of Global Issues. The contextual events and novel study lead students to develop their global citizenship and to encourage criticality in response to multi-modal propaganda. ATLs include multiple perspectives and the milestone assessment is based in criteria BCD, to encourage students to respond to their explorations and share their ideas. This is a challenging unit but is adaptable for all prior attinment students.

Cross Curricular Art Evaluation and WW1 Conflict Poetry- Perspectives of Then and Now

(0)
Suitable for MYP Years 1 and 2, this cross curricular module introduces students to lesser-known WWI poets and uses their work to build students’ understanding of Interpretivism and encourages them to begin using the ATL criticality. The milestone assessment has been contrived to assess criteria A,B,C and D. All lessons come with adapted resources for PLA students. The material remains aspirational and relies heavily on the contextual knowledge and skills built across the module. This resource is designed to address the class attainment gap and equip all new students to MYP with the potential to succeed academically. Students are guided through the development of hinterland knowledge of propaganda, trench life and to explore the motivations of different poets with a reading of their contextual life events and contemporary social constructs. They ask how far the poet’s presentation can be trusted as they analyse their work and begin to write extended essays, sharing their view in response to different poems/ As the module progresses, students are guided through an introduction of the modern art genre, Augmentism and inspect how the Augmentists, Scarlett Raven and Marc Marot use multimodal approaches (including a reliance on performed WW1 poems) to reflect on life for soldiers in WWI. Students who are surprised by the Augmented Reality aspect of their milestone often speak of it fondly in MYP Y3 graduation and enjoy the blending of art evaluation and critical analysis of the poems they study. Many teachers comment that this brings new life and a new perspective to WWI poetry and promotes interest in generations who do not access to living history, ‘Lest We Forget’.

MYP The Odyssey Language and Literatre

This bundle of MYP Year 2 lessons comes with Knowledge Organiser, Unit Plan (with detailed explanations of Global and Related concepts, Statement of Inquiry, and addresses the Key concept of Identity) Milestone Assessment (for criteria BCD, with task specific clarification) and aspirational GRASP task. The unit is aspirational and looks at The Odyssey through the themes of Xenia and Homeric Heroism. The elements of analysis of Homer’s Odyssey lead students to produce imaginative writing and permit students with a deficit of cultural capital to engage with Classical literature and ideals in an accessible, yet aspirational way. Lessons are supported with non verbal cues to Learner Profile Attributes connected to the featured task. The unit consists of 36 hours of lessons, based on a 4 lesson a week and revises the AP sentence types to assist in building SPaG for non fiction and fiction writing. Despite being classically and contextually challenging, the lessons support students in learning habits that grow their hinterland knowledge and include references to three texts (translated Homer, Robin Lister and Gillian Cross) so that all students may access the story without compromising their enjoyment. I love this module and enjoy the reactions of students to Ancient Greek ideas of society, morality and customs in comparison to their modern world.
