Simpson and his donkey with factsheets and worksheets. This is a PowerPoint presentation on one of the most well-known ANZAC, John Simpson Kirkpatrick and his donkey. It is a resource linked to ANZAC Day and bravery. UPDATED WITH ANSWER SHEETS AND TEACHER NOTES MAY 2019 There are 7 Lesson Plans (with learning objectives) and Presentations. Worksheets and practical activities for whole group teaching. The pack consists of: -Sound and how sound travels including sound waves, vibrations, pitch, volume; -The sounds we can make with our voices and what happens; -How we hear; -How some animals hear; -How to get sound from different musical instruments and what happens; and -The type of listening devices we use to locate sound, stethoscopes, hearing aids etc. 19 audio sounds for listening activities (MP3 audio) Lesson 1: This is about how we use our voice and the different sounds we make. There is a diagram of how our voice works which includes vibration, pitch and how we need our teeth and tongue to produce sounds. Activity: students are given a very short text to add vocal sound effects to in their groups - narrator/reader reads the short text (print this off the Slide) and the other students decide on vocal sound effects to add. Lesson 2:- This is about musical instruments and how we produce sound from them (bang, hit, shake, pluck etc.) and group them into their categories (wind, stringed, percussion)- Grouping Activity sheets and Listening activity. Lesson 3 - This is more practical and students plan and design their musical instruments. They are given ideas on what to do, e.g. make a guitar from cereal boxes, the handle is made of kitchen towel tube, strings are various sizes of elastic bands etc. Lesson 4: This is about how we ear (also video youtube link - Children learn about the anatomy of the ear (outer ear, middle ear and inner ear) and how we receive and process sound. They also learn about why we get dizzy (semi-circular canals in our ear is filled with fluid). There are worksheet activities and Listening activities on PowerPoint Presentations. Lesson 5: This lesson is about different listening devices such as the stethoscope, ear trumpets that were used in the past and versions of it that are used to hear unborn babies. Students: make ear trumpets and pot telephones learning how sound travels to the ear via the string attached to the plastic cups. Students test different cups and length of strings. Lesson 6: This lesson is about how some animals move their ears to hear sounds and locate their prey. - Activities: Students work with a partner to complete their worksheets with missing words. Lesson 7: Investigation - Explores sounds get quieter when you are further away from its source - Sounds for Kids All the lessons include information on volume, pitch, vibrations and sound waves. This resource is for Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten. Also suitable for ESL/EFL students and students still finding it challenging to discriminate sounds. A lovely addition to your phonics lessons and literacy resource center. Just print onto card paper and laminate - use drywipe pens for activities. The cards are editable so you can change to black and white print out and stick into students’ book as a record of their phonic work. How to use:- 1. The student looks at the picture and say what it is. 2. When s/he knows what the picture is they attempt to sort out the scrambled word by sounding out initial medial and final letters. 3. S/he then writes the word correctly on the line. Other uses:- There are 58 CVC cards which are made up of 29 pairs of onset and rime words and pictures. - Lay out pairs of cards for the student to match the rhyming pictures and then unscramble the words and write them out correctly. This reading comprehension bundle includes 4 lovely fiction stories. The vocabulary is age-appropriate and children are encouraged to work out the meaning of words in the context of the story. The subject matters are familiar to the children and so there are cross-curricular themes. The booklets cater for all level of readers - The Chase being the easiest. Booklets 2 are divided into sections. So each paragraph is followed by questions. Some of the questions require the reader to 'read between the lines'. Not only is a child's comprehension assessed but other English key skills are incorporated. The resource can be given to more able pupils to work on independently. The booklets can also be used in guided reading sessions. The questions are extensive so the children can answer a set of questions in one session and do another set of questions in another session.

Calendar for back to school you can display in early years/KS1 classrooms. This resource pack contains a blank weather, date and year display poster to be completed each day using the changeable days, date, month, weather card displays. The words in shadow show where the laminated day, date, month and year should go. There is space for the weather conditions on the same blank display. The preview window shows how the display will appear when you complete the blank display poster. You can also change the weather button background if you don’t want plain white - click on, e.g. the ‘hot’ weather button, go to Drawing Tools then Shape Fill to choose your colour. Print off displays onto card paper - enlarge to A3 if wish for a larger display. I printed off onto coloured card paper.
