A board game to practice vocabulary for time. Students to play in pairs or small groups. Vocabulary includes ‘en punto’ (o’clock), ‘y media’ (half past), ‘y cuarto’ (quarter past), menos cuarto’ (quarter to). Students roll the dice and count on that number of spaces. When they land on a picture students must say the correct time. If students land on circle, they must go back ‘retrocede’. If they land on a diamond, students go forward ‘avanza’. Great for practicing vocabulary and getting the whole class talking. You can give extra points for students counting the number of spaces in Spanish and using the phrases ‘te toca a ti’ (it’s your turn) and ‘me toca a mi’ (it’s my turn).

A PowerPoint to teach seven words related to carnival celebration in Spain. A great way to celebrate ‘Carnaval’ with your class this year. Vocabulary: • el baile – the dance • la fiesta - the party • el disfraz – fancy dress • la carroza – parade float • los fuegos artificiales – fireworks • la música – music • el desfile – parade The PowerPoint contains five games to consolidate knowledge of vocabulary. The five activities are: Matching - students match the words to the pictures. Picture splat - teacher says the word and two students compete to be the first to splat the picture. What’s missing - numbers disappear from the slide and students say what has disappeared Quick flash - pictures are displayed momentarily. Students put their hand up and say what the picture is. Click again and the picture appears. Click a third time and the word in Spanish appears. Blockbusters – students complete to say the target vocabulary to cross from one side of the board to another. Could be used in conjunction with Carnival in Spanish Carnaval Worksheets (find it for free in the Spanish Classroom TES shop).
