Pack comprises of an 8 slide powerpoint presentation that allows children to discuss and work on several problems in either groups or pairs, using the rule divide, down, denominator (works with my class)
Process used - multiplying the denominator by the whole number.
note - in the SAT arithmetic paper, it is not necessary to simplify an answer but it is encouraged as good practice in the worksheets
Two four question worksheets (differentiated as one and two star). For greater depth, answers are to be simplified and converted into decimal for (up to 3 places).
One arithmetic worksheet.
This resource is for year 5 and can be used as either an elicitation task or end of sequence assessment. Learning objectives are as follows:
Can I read, write, order and compare numbers up to 1,000,000?
Round any whole number accurately?
Identify the value of each digit in a number up to 1,000,000?
Use, read, write and convert between standard units of length, mass and time?
Convert a smaller unit of measure to a larger unit, and vice versa?
Order decimal numbers from lowest to highest and vice-versa?
Answers are included on p2 for ease of marking and learning objectives are included at the top of p1 for highlighting whether the objective is met or not.
Two worksheets (one for less able and one for more able) on the characteristics that pupils think make a good god.
What characteristics are important in a god?
What characteristics are not important and why?
What do the words ‘eternal’, ‘omnipotent’ and ‘omniscient’ mean?
A good accompaniment for an RE lesson where children discuss what qualities/traits are important in terms of leadership.
A3 sized worksheet incorporating elicitation task that covers the following learning objectives:
Can I identify the properties of a circle? Can I calculate the area of a rectangle, triangle and parallelogram?
Can I calculate missing angles? Can I calculate the volume of a cuboid?
Can I calculate with square and cubed numbers?
A Year 6 assessment task that can be used to assess children’s current level of understanding in percentages, fractions, multiplication of round numbers and associated word problems. Answers are included for ease of marking.
Can be used in conjunction with the elicitation task for this sequence which is also available on TES Resources.
A powerpoint slideshow to demonstrate how main clauses should be separated using semicolons or dashes.
Examples shown to model correct usage (and incorrect usage)
Opportunities for partner talk
End of presentation task (copy five sentences and insert semicolons correctly)
EXTENSION CHALLENGE to create own two main clause sentences divided by semicolons.
A differentiated set of percentage calculations - e.g. 35% of 460.
Tikka Masala = Finding multiples of 10%
Madras = Finding multiples of 10 and 5%
Vindaloo = Finding any percentage.
Teacher can differentiate or pupils can self-differentiate depending on confidence.
Pack also has a worksheet of 5 word problems aimed at middle and higher pupils - finding discounts/profits etc.
Answers to all questions are included for ease of marking and ‘over shoulder’ marking.
A game on Powerpoint where children work in groups of 2-4 and are given a company, along with a balance of half a million.
Serves as good practise for those 2 mark questions in the arithmetic paper, as well as a touch of reasoning.
Children must play four rounds where they will be expected to work together to do the following.
multiply 3 numbers by 2 numbers.
multiply 4 number by 2 numbers.
Divide four numbers by 12.
Divde four numbers by 36.
They may also have to work out differences and subtract from their current balance (depending on their accuracy in the rounds!)
The most accurate group, with the highest balance at the end, wins!
Enjoy
Revision worksheets aimed at learning how to work out 10, 5 and 1% with the view that any percentage can be worked out using this knowledge as a foundation.
3 tasks included:
- Working out 10% of any given number.
- Working out 1, 5 and 10 % of any given number.
- Using this knowledge to work out different percentages of given numbers.
Answer sheet included for ease of marking/over-shoulder marking.
Task also includes free sheet with word problems aimed at expected and greater depth.
Differentiated into 3 levels of difficulty - addition and subtraction of fractions with different denominators, with mixed fractions included for extra challenge.
Answer sheet is included for ease of marking.
1 chilli = 12 questions using simple fractions with different denominators.
2 chillies = 12 questions using simple and mixed fractions with different denominators.
3 chillies = 12 questions using simple, mixed and addition of 3 fractions with different denominators.
A reading comprehension that tells the story of a World War evacuee who is sent to the Devon countryside. Having been sent to live with the Hardiman’s, Robert discovers that the old man’s longtime ambition is to catch the much sought after ‘Old Percy’ - a huge 40lb pike that has never before been caught.
The reading comprehension consists of twenty marks and provides practice on true/false, fact/opinion, chronological ordering, recall, retrieval and inference.
A file with the answers is also included for ease of marking.
Ideal exercise in the build-up to SATs, or just for a normal reading comprehension exercise in upper KS2. Can also be used as part of a World War 2 topic.
3 Differentiated Grids of words (20 in each) that are often spelled incorrectly.
Children start off with a number points and lose 10, 100 or 1000 points for each incorrect spelling they have circled (number of points lost depends on the difficulty of the challenge).
Lower Ability will start on 200 points and focuses mostly on short/frequently used words that are often seen to be spelled incorrectly.
Middle Ability will start with 2000 points.
Higher Ability (more challenging content) start with 20,000 points.
Task is ideal for a starter challenge - at the beginning of the school day or English/literacy.
Answer Sheets are included in a separate document for either teacher, peer or self marking.
A worksheet to monitor children’s capability and understanding in using the four operations with both simple and mixed fractions. If you’ve also downloaded the elicitation task, it can be a very useful tool to highlight the progress the children are making throughout your schemes of work. Answers are included with the worksheet for ease of marking.
Exercises involving fractions of numbers (e.g. 2/5 of 240) that can first be discussed as a class leading into paired work. The powerpoint discusses the formulas used for working out fractions of numbers and also touches on the point that, when dealing with fractions, X and OF mean the same thing.
To finish with, plenary-wise, there is a task that children can complete (either in pairs or individually) geared to their level confidence at this particular point. Together with good quality questioning, this should prove to be useful resource across Key Stage 2 (particularly in Years 5/6).
Revision Powerpoints for quick and pacy revision sessions.
Useful for picking up extra marks in the reasoning papers and quick practice sessions that children can do on whiteboards.
Estimation - using rounding skills to estimate answers to calculations and explain reasoning.
Rounding - a reminder on how to round whole numbers and numbers to two or three decimal places.
Mean Average - Exercises to remind children the formula for working out the mean of a set of data.
Translation - Where there is no grid - just the axes. Children often get confused by this. This PP will help explain how to translate using mathematics alone.
Hope you find it useful.
Four short passages where children must use inference with regards to the text in order to answer 3 mark questions. This is good practice for providing evidence from the text itself and explaining reasoning.
These exercises can be carried out in a whole class guided reading environment, small groups or individually. Might be a good idea to one text as a class and discuss how to answer the questions. Give another as a paired exercise and the final two as individual work.
A teacher notes/answers sheet is provided as a separate file for ease of marking.
2 separate worksheets (with answers for ease of marking) that call on pupils to identify main, subordinate and relative clauses in different sentences. The method asks for similar identification to that asked for in the GPS SATs test so can be used as a good foundation for revision or simple teaching throughout upper key stage 2.
A series of 3 challenging problems for greater depth/mastery level year 6s.
All problems are multi-step and require mathematical reasoning and knowledge of area finding formulas.
Use of all 4 operations will be required.
Can be done in groups, pairs or individually. A very good task if you have a pupil/pupils racing on ahead in class and require a holding task or greater challenge to keep them motivated.
Answers included on page 2 for ease of marking (includes workings so sight of certain answers can be observed within the steps).
Good reasoning for SAT practice also.
The Christmas views of a rather grumpy Christmas tree who is dragged indoors every December.
Written in the first person, the story/narrative is accompanied by a comprehension quiz (15 questions) requiring pupils to infer, recall, retrieve, state true or false, state fact or opinion, consider word meaning/comprehension and look for synonyms. Questions are styled to be a good practice ahead of the SAT reading paper.
All answers are included for ease of marking.
Year 5 and 6 reading comprehension based on esafety and keeping safe on the internet. 22 mark reading comprehension. Comprehension discusses the stranger dangers associated with online gaming/use, gaming addiction and how to look after yourself during online activities.
