The children have a price list with the cost of savoury and sweet food, party bag items and games. They can choose which products to buy and put them into tables and calculate the cost. It could be made harder or easier by changing the prices. They should enjoy this as every child loves a party! May take more than 1 lesson. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

These are chosen from the list of non-statutory homophones that year 3 and 4 should learn, from the new national curriculum for English. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!This game teaches the definitions as well. When the word is in brackets and in capitals the children should spell it out by saying the letter names. Time yourselves and make a note of the time. reward them when they beat their time!

Reading comprehension questions The Sea by James Reeves KS2/3 different abilities

Read the poem 'The Sea' by James Reeves which is a metaphor. The sea is a hungry dog. Give each child a copy. Put the class into four or five teams. Photocopy the questions and chop up the questions. Each teams questions can be on a different colour paper. One team member comes up to get a question, takes it back to the team and shares it with them. Discuss answer and bring the question back to the teacher and tell them the answer. If correct they get a team point and then another member gets the next question. They love this! I have also included traditional comprehension questions that they can stick in their books, SEN/LA , MA and HA.

The Tempest play modern language KS2

I have written this for our Year 3s to perform but it could be used with older children. I have two versions, one shorter than the other with less characters. I have tried to stick to the real play but used modern language. Sometimes if I could I put in some of the original language. The cast list has so many parts as we have three classes but there could easily be less, by having less narrators, percussionists etc. I have found some great songs to go with it from this the starshine website but you have to buy the CD.

This resource links to my BIG SPELLING resources, which contain spelling lists for years 3 to 6 and assessment lists. This shows you how you can ensure that your children learn the statutory spelling lists in the new national curriculum, bit by bit, in a manageable way, whilst continuing with Big Spellings.

Hound Gelert poem reading comprehension Level 4/5

This poem could be studied over several lessons. I used this for SATS revision. Initially I read it and we discussed the meaning. Then I gave a verse out to each pair and asked one of them to practise reading it and the other to create a freeze-frame to show the main idea in the poem. Then we performed the poem in a circle. Most of the comprehension questions focus on the earlier part of the poem so you could add more questions if needed. Before you read the poem show them a photo of a wolf hound and afterwards show them a photo of his grave. Please leave feedback!

KS2 Football lesson 5 activities/5 stations

If you are not a PE specialist this is a good lesson as it could be repeated several times and it teaches some of the key skills in football. Follow the lesson plan but it is very simple. After the warm up split the class into 5 groups. Laminate the cards and put them at five different places as there are five different activities. You might want to pick children to demonstrate each activity first, especially if they are younger. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

We have beautifully illustrated books of this poem, illustrated by Charles Keeping which are worth getting hold of. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The poem is also dramatised in a youtube video which you will find if you type in the title. This could be used as part of a topic on this wonderful and mysterious poem. Some of the questions are challenging

There are two levels of work and a plan. There is a Smart board too but you don't need it. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!The children draw a true/false chart in their books and have to cut and work out which reasons are true and which are false. Ask them to let you check whether they are correct before sticking down.

Children work in groups of 3 with one worksheet to record ideas. Rotate the pictures round, one for each group. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!I had a replica coin and necklace as well. The children have to guess what they were for-some are easier that others. Use the Smartboard to reveal what the pictures are of at the end.

I used this homework with a year 5 group. The children had to think of four word problems related to Minecraft, Diary of a Wimpy Kid etc.Talk through some examples with them. When you get the homework back choose the ones that are clear and make sense to photocopy for their next homework. They were actually enthusiastic about this homework! Please leave feedback.

Titanic Smartboard lesson 1 primary source

This lesson introduces the children to the 'Titanic&' disaster. First it asks them to discuss what they already know, then it looks at &';The Daily Mail' cover from the time and they have to create a list of questions they would ask if they had seen this at the time. Then they have to read it (the newspaper article is available online). I had a copy of the actual paper to photocopy and give out. Tell them they can now find the answers. They will soon realise when reading the article that the information is completely inaccurate and this should create an interesting discussion.

SB 'UK Festivals' topic KS2 incl Sikh Vaisakhi

This was part of a festival topic we did in year 6 where the children imagined going round the UK to different festivals. In the first two lessons the children plan what they would need to take on a trip and design their own vehicle (DT). They begin in Norwich at the Dragon Festival and then move on to Birmingham for the Sikh New Year festival (Vaisakhi). Then they pop over to India! Then return for the Festival of Speed and the Welsh Music festival. The Smart Boards are detailed and can be followed without a lesson plan. Then they travel to Northern Ireland.
