Hi there, I am a head of History based in South Yorkshire. My strengths and passion are in teaching and learning. Stone Keep Castles

This lesson details the progression from Motte and Bailey Castles to Stone Keep Castles in Medieval Britain. The lesson contains a 4 mark describe question to reflect on prior learning. The content covers the structure and features of stone keep castle and then looks further (through means of a carousel activity) advantages and disadvantages of stone keep castles. This would lead well to insert a Paper 1 ‘Interpretations Q’ for the new Spec AQA paper.

This lesson covers part of the ‘Mid Tudor Crisis’. It explores the boy king Edward VI as a ruler of England and the problems he causes with regards to the succession. Year 8 History Full SOW 2016-17 (2 year KS3)

This is the 2016-17 Scheme of work which has been produced for Y8. The lessons I plan and sell on here correspond perfectly with the SOW. This is a SOW which has been honed, changed and improved over my years of teaching. The SOW offers a week by week breakdown (using 2016/17 dates) of each lesson (based on a 2 lesson a week average). It is easy and comprehensive for the non specialists to use and works well for us keeping track as we have many split classes in lower school. Suggested homeworks included and a column to enter the annual data collections can be added which can make planning assessments easier. Lessons for this SOW can be bought in bulk as well as individually. Please message me any requests if I havent yet uploaded any units and I will endeavour to upload them ASAP.

The 1936 Reoccupation of the Rhineland

This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event through a detailed piece of writing which students work on independently at first then in groups to complete a worksheet. Students then use their knowledge of the event to practice and self mark a 6 mark question with heavy scaffolding to help students understand accurate exam structure. The lesson content covers the events of 1936 and the reaction of the leading European powers at the time (namely Britain & France) to Hitler’s violation of the Treaty of Versailles. Students consider how/why was Hitler able to get away with it and begin to consider how this could lead to WW2. Please review!

Life in a Medieval Town

This lesson has been created for KS3 students and covers life in Medieval England. The purpose of the lesson is to get students to consider how life could be viewed as both healthy and unhealthy in Medieval England using source statements. Students initially search for Medieval public health features within a ‘Wheres Wally style activity’. Students then plot on a living graph using statements to guide them in pairs. Finally students apply their learning by writing a section of a 12 mark style question (AQA) using the sentence scaffolds provided to coach pupils into using accurate exam technique. All accompanying resources included and suggested learning outcomes provided with space for you to add your own accompanying grades. I teach this lesson in full to my higher ability Y7 students (and reduce the number of statements to differentiate for my lower ability students). I have been graded ‘Outstanding’ in observation with this lesson also. I really hope you enjoy teaching this lesson as much as I do!

All about me bunting and flag

This resource activity contains 2x all about me bunting and flag templates in PDF format for students to complete with details about themselves and to colour in and develop on the design to show their individual personalities. A perfect activity for back to school in class, tutor time or as a set piece for homework. It would make a lovely display or a timecapsule piece for students to look back on at the end of their secondary school career. The individual bunting triangles could be used to make a hanging display in your classroom (there is a flap across the top to fold over a string) and the flag design would make a lovely wall display. The resource is aimed at secondary aged students - mostly new year 7 students starting secondary, however it can easily be used with other KS3 year groups. Questions on the bunting include things such as, name, birthday, self portrait frame, favourite book and subjects. Please note this resource is an activity with templates and student instructions not for a full lesson powerpoint.

All about me bunting/flag - KS2 primary

This resource activity contains 2x all about me bunting and flag templates in PDF format for primary students to complete with details about themselves and to colour in and develop on the design to show their individual personalities. A perfect activity for back to school in class or as a set piece for homework. It would make a lovely display or a timecapsule piece for students to look back on at the end of their primary school career. The individual bunting triangles could be used to make a hanging display in your classroom (there is a flap across the top to fold over a string) and the flag design would make a lovely wall display. The resource is aimed at primary aged students - mainly upper KS2 students however it could be used with lower KS2 classes with a little more teacher guidance. This has been created as an independent student activity but it could equally work as a paired discussion activity with students interviewing one another and completing the flag on their peers behalf. Questions on the bunting include things such as, name, birthday, self portrait frame, favourite book and subjects. Please note this resource is an activity with templates and student instructions not for a full lesson powerpoint.

A well presented lesson on the capture of slaves. Students are engaged through detailed, well presented resources. For this lesson ROOTs is required.
