Starter - Differentiated starter where the students put different vocabulary into sentences.
Two short related videos on the slide which the students can be introduced to before or after.

Main - Short group-work activity where the students recap the three main different voting systems in the UK (First Past The Post [FPTP], Alternative Vote [AV] and Proportional Representation [PR]).
Lower ability slide hidden.
Students then have a slide which is able to be printed out so they can peer-assess another groups work.

Main - Activity on voting using each system. Every student will receive three ballot papers one after another and their task is to fill them in honestly and correctly.
Three higher ability students (or pairs) are chosen by the teacher to count the results.
While they are doing this the other students complete a practice 6-mark question.

Plenary - The students write down their reaction to the results of the election and which made the fairest system.
Lower ability slides available.

Extension task included with past exam question.

Information sheet included on FPTP.
