A KS3 lesson (intended as a 1 hour single) looking at Alfred the Great of Wessex. Tasks establish concept of ‘greatness’ before looking at the actions of Alfred. Pupils read and rate ‘how great’. At the end they form two interpretations looking at whether he deserved to be called ‘great’ or not.
