We're told that eating fish is good for us, but given the toxic heavy metals present in much seafood, how much is safe to eat?

This article looks at how bioaccumulation works, and includes the gory case study of an Arctic expedition in the 1590s, in which some of the men lost their skin because of eating polar bear liver, which had very high vitamin A content. It includes questions for discussion, including on the risk of eating mercury-containing food when pregnant, and on the similarities and differences between mercury and DDT.
