These took me so long to make I couldnt just use them myself. Trimmed and laminated, I had them strewn on a table with real conkers and some tree shapes for children to put conkers on. It gave me the opportunity to see who could count the conkers, saying number names in order, read any numbers, extend more able to ...one more etc. All very open ended but yielded a lot of useful info.
