This lesson is an introduction to the Salem witch hunts for the edexcel course. Access to the course textbook is helpful for teachers in this lesson.
Pupils start with a ‘what do you know’ activity, followed by some introductory geography and source analysis to get to grips with the context of Salem and New England.
Pupils will then watch 3 video clips and read another source to gather some modern preconceptions about the witch trials, before considering how accurate those preconceptions might be when comparing it to an overview of the actual events.
Pupils then complete a basic timeline, before comparing Salem’s context with that of the other 4 depth studies.
