Teaching about hobbies is always fun with Beginners in English. The question is where do we start? How can we be sure that we have integrated all the vocabulary and grammar relevant to their level?

How about having the context, the vocabulary and the grammar in just one place with explanations, exercises and feedback?

This flexible resource will help you teach young adults and adults about extreme sports, suggestions (Let’s…, How about…), abilities (can/can’t) and use of “like” vs “want”. There is also a review about hobbies, use of “do”, “play”, “go” and days of the week. This resource is aimed at helping teachers to complement their textbook or to give enough material for those who are not lucky enough to have access to ESL textbooks/material.

The resource contains a powerpoint with 28 slides with clear explanations at the bottom of each one of them to give you a step-by-step explanation about the progression of the lesson. The exercises are corrected to save you time!

The resource also contains an activity booklet for students with 11 pages so that they keep a record of their learning.

The approach is communicative to allow students to develop their speaking skills but it also contains reading and writing activities to consolidate their grammatical skills and improve their writing skills.

You will find different types of activities to allow a greater differentiation in your class:
- A recap about hobbies, likes/dislikes, days of the week through questions
- A matching up between pictures and extreme sports
- A speaking (interview with multiple answers)
- Texts (brochures) about different types of vacations
- A conversation to reorder
- A grammar point about LIKE vs WANT
- A filling gap activity to practice
- A grammar point about SUGGESTIONS
- 2 exercises to practice (reordering the words/choosing the right option)
- A grammar point about ABILITIES/POSSIBILITIES
- 4 activities to practise abilities (Yes/no questions with CAN, reading a grid and answering questions, personal completion of grid followed by peer questions, game)
- An unjumbling activity to create sentences to recap the lesson
- A ping-pong (Q/A) activity in pairs to review work done about hobbies, extreme sports and other topics
- A Review of objectives

You can easily use this resource on its own but I suggest you take a look at the other resources on the topic to give your students some progression in their learning!
Have fun!
