A resource book with lesson plans, worksheets and assessment questions, looking at flooding and the use of natural flood management.

These lessons have been designed around a thinking skills approach to geography giving the students the opportunity to explore a range of issues that exist in the context of flooding in the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire.

The lessons have been designed to be taught in a sequence and will fit into an existing unit of work on Rivers and Flooding at KS3, alternatively tasks and resources can be selected out and used on their own. These lesson will the look at the use of Natural Flood Management as a means of ‘soft engineering’ in rivers.

A selection of assessment questions and levelled mark schemes have been included that can be used individually or incorporated into a schools own end of unit assessment.

All accompanying lesson PowerPoints, photographs and information sheets along with the resource book are freely available to download from the Slow the Flow website
