This proposed Key Stage 3 History curriculum is to help teachers build a successful, engaging and coherent unit of study from Year 7 through to Year 9.
I have included topics which are traditional and popular, such as starting with the Normans and 1066 through to those that are becoming popular and relevant in today’s society and which inspire curiosity such as the British Empire and Migration to Britain.
The aim of this proposed curriculum is to be:
- clear and progressive
- carefully selected with sequenced topic suggestions that build depth and challenge
- creative with ideas to ensure strong links between units and clear thematic development such as Slavery, Empire and Migration to Britain
- supportive with incorporating key historical concepts, literacy and assessment
- practical with classroom-tested lessons
This curriculum will give informed guidance for those teachers who are struggling to design one that is purposeful and which will prepare students for GCSE and beyond.
