Making Contractions (Year 2)

This Year 2 teaching resource consists of 82 PowerPoint slides, split into 7 sessions, covering formation of contractions with not, will, is, are, have, had and would.

• Session 1 – contracted forms of ‘not’
• Session 2 – contracted forms of ‘will’
• Session 3 – contracted forms of ‘is’
• Session 4 – contracted forms of ‘are’
• Session 5 – contracted forms of ‘have’
• Session 6 - contracted forms of ‘had’
• Session 7 - contracted forms of ‘would’

All sessions include:

• Introduction to Contractions
• Demonstration of how to use ‘Munch’, ‘Budge’, ‘Mark’ strategy’ to create contracted forms (animated slides)
• Link to ‘Apostrophe with a Big Appetite’ demonstration tool.
• Carpet activity 1: children make contracted words using Munch’, ‘Budge’, ‘Mark’ strategy.
• Carpet activity 2: children to apply contractions to sentences (animated slides)
