A simple poetry writing activity to use when learning about and celebrating the Māori New Year.

The topic of this poetry is Manu Tukutuku (kites). The framework of the poem is very simple and is particularly suitable for junior students.

The Publishing Template:
Your students write their poem in the square that has the lines and they colour the picture of the kite in the adjacent square. The template is then cut out and displayed like a quilt.

Verb (-ing word)
Noun (topic)

Example Poem:
Diving
Gliding
Swooping
Fluttering
Manu tukutuku

There are 2 publishing templates with the picture on the left and two with the picture on the right. Use the same amount of left/right pieces in order to arrange like a quilt.
