The following lesson covers the link between atoms, the nucleus and radioactivity. Students will compare the general size of the atomic structures and begin to link this to the stability of the atom.

Students will then look at the types of radiation emitted by the nucleus and then use their information to complete a set of application questions. A mini-white board quiz is advised as a plenary.

The lesson is linked to the new AQA (9-1) curriculum and is the first lesson taught in the Atomic structure unit

Includes: Power point and a plenary worksheet
