This is a ppt about the ancient Egyptian number system and hieroglyphs. It was written for Second Level CFE but would also work with KS2 and Grade 4-6.
It can be used to reinforce understanding of base 10 and place value, practice note-taking, and develop confidence in working with symbols and number (developing algebraic thinking). The slides include the hieroglyphs used by the Egyptians along with translation challenges. Work progresses from group, to pair to individual work with plenty of scope for scaffolding ideas.
