This is a lesson that I did for a school inspection on Earth Day in an FS2 / KG1 class.

Links to science, communities, Africa, Earth Day, water and states of matter, geography, how things work, knowledge and understanding of the world.

I also did this lesson as a science hook lesson with a KS2 group linking it to a trip to the water plantation and learning about the water cycle.

The lesson was graded outstanding in an external school inspection.

Based on the story of ‘The Water Princess’ by Susan Verde, digital version of book is included, we learned about the problem of clean water and how not everybody around the world has ready access to clean water - we then decided to take action and made a water filter in groups.

PPT and activity instruction resources included.

Other resources needed for the practical activity.
