This is the work from a two week investigation I set the pupils in maths. They had to use all the skills they had learnt over the year (reading tables, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, decimal places etc)
For the first few days, children used ipads to look up flights and hotels and then calculate the total cost of their travel.
For the other days, children had to plan their activities and their expenses. For one day they have to plan a visit to a theme park, including converting their money into euros.
Children also have to use different menus and price lists to plan out their days and their spending money.
The children in my class loved this work and really got involved. I got a lot of evidence for learning in another context as the children had to apply their maths skills without modelling to complete all the different challenges.
Feel free to pick and choose the activities as you wish.
This is a really good time filler if you have a week at the end of term, or could even be used as assessment.
