Powerpoint looking at introducing Pythagoras through an investigation where students need to be in pairs. Each pair has a number 1 and 2. Number 1 begins trying to draw the triangle accurately and measuring the third side, number 2 tries to create a calculation that works using the numbers. Number 1 can help when they finish their task. The pairs swap and keep doing this between slides. They then look for a link and try to use this on a few examples. This is then generalised to a generic triangle where the pupils come up with pythagoras theorem. This is then applied to the initial problem which sets the task going.

Pupils will need a calculator, ruler and jotter for this task.
