Reading Tracker 2026

**2026 is the National Year of Reading, so let’s use this classroom reading tracker and encourage our pupils to work together as a class team and read for just 10 minutes each day, every day of this year! ** Print the tracker on A3 paper and stick it on your classroom wall where everyone can see it. Then get reading and get colouring!

Reading for just 10 minutes each day has so many benefits, and is an achievable amount of time to fit into the daily school timetable – you could try reading as a class first thing in the morning, at the start or end of a Literacy lesson, straight after lunch break, or at the end of the school day. The choice is yours!

The tracker has been designed to accurately represent each calendar month of 2026. The vertical books represent weekdays (Monday-Friday), and the horizontal books represent weekends (Saturday-Sunday). (ie 2026 began on Thursday 1st January).

The tracker is flexible – there are lots of ways you could use it with your class:

• Read every day of the year and colour in each book
• Read on Mondays-Fridays and just colour in the vertical books
• After the weekend, or a school holiday, ask if any of the children read on those days – they can colour those days in for the class – ultimate teamwork!
• Read a class book out loud altogether, or read separate books at the same time – all reading is good reading
• Audio books count too!

Reading for just 10 minutes each day will strengthen the brain, expose children to thousands of words a year, broaden their vocabulary, reduce stress levels and improve mood and wellbeing, improve general knowledge, develop creativity and imagination, improve critical thinking skills and improve memory. It will also bring your class together as a team as you work together with a shared goal – reading helps us to feel connected. So, let’s GO ALL IN as we read together this year!
