Silence of the Lambs - Comprehension

GCSE AQA English Language reading comprehension and writing activites to assist with revision based on “The Silence of the Lambs”. The resource follows the same format as GCSE AQA English Language - Paper 1.

Two levels of revision, fill in the blanks or use keywords. This resource allows students to practice the following:

Question 1 - Explicit & Implicit Information, List 4 things.
Question 2 - Understanding Writer’s Language
Question 3 - Understanding Writer’s Structure
Question 4 - Evaluation
Question 5 - Descriptive and Narrative Writing

Question 1 allows students to list four things from the source, and looks into implicit detail with a short extension task. This gives students the ability to create inferences from unseen texts.

Question 2 - Level one, students are presented with an analysis of writer’s language in which they need to fill in the gaps using the keywords. This provides students with an example analysis paragraph that they can use to practice writing their own. Level two, students are presented with with keywords in which they must use to formulate their own response.

Question 3 - Level one, students are presents with an analysis of writer’s structure in which they need to fill in the gaps using the keywords. This provides students with an example analysis paragraph that they can use to practice writing their own. Level two, students are presented with with keywords in which they must use to formulate their own response.

Question 4 - Students are presented with a statement about the text in which students should choose to either agree or disagree with. Students can use the table to map out their ideas by writing quotes from the text and showing how they either support or go against the statement. Students will then need to write their evaluation either in their books or on a piece of paper.

Question 5 - An example taken from a past exam paper in which students can practice their creative writing. Students have the option to either choose the Descriptive or the Narrative Question however, should be encouraged to attempt both. This allows students to become comfortable in both types of writing.
