A worksheet for students to complete whenever they are reading an unseen text. On one side there are prompts to summarise the text; notice/look up unfamiliar words; and to identify the genre, purpose, audience and tone. The other side serves as a crib sheet to support completion, with lists of genres, purposes, audiences, etc.

I use this whenever students are looking at an extract they haven't seen before as it helps them to make sense of what they are looking at, drawing their attention to key information that helps with basic comprehension of what is in front of them.

I initially made this for GCSE students, but it works across KS3 and KS4.
