This resource has been developed to highlight the advantages of a port location making full use of a navigable river in this case the Weser in Bremen, North Germany.
The presentation highlights how a port remains a fully functioning commercial location whilst the derelict areas of the port have been revitalized through gentrification.
The resource can be used as an international case study of industrial location at all phases both in the UK and International education, KS3, GCSE, IGCSE, A-level and International Baccalaureate
The annotated photographs used in the presentation were taken by the author when in post as Head of Geography at the International School of Bremen and was also used successfully as a stimulus for fieldwork in the case study area.
Included in the presentation is a task designed to encourage research and presentation skills for groups or individuals allowing for the opportunity to design posters, flyers and support material for the presentation to an audience of peers.
Basic German vocabulary is used in the presentation allowing the opportunity for cross-curricular links and as I have done in my classroom, encouraged the young people to present in German for the speaking element of their German course.
I hope this is a useful resource that will introduce an international dimension to teaching and learning within the classroom.
