1 hour lesson for KS3 and KS4 geography classes. The lesson begins with a game that highlights the different barriers to development across a range of African countries. The end result is a deeper understanding of the human and physical causes of uneven development in Africa/across the world.
Students work in pairs and have a country card between them. They all begin with the same amount of tokens. The teacher reads out statements which will affect countries differently, meaning they can either gain or lose tokens. After the game there is opportunity for discussion and reflection. The second half of the lesson is an independent consolidation activity on the human and physical factors affecting development in Africa.
All resources apart from the tokens are included, all instructions are on the notes of the powerpoint. There is a template country card slide if you want to add your own countries to the game
