Unplugged Year 1 Computing carousel with 4 offline activities: robot coding, technology detectives, design a robot, and online safety basics.

This Year 1 Computing carousel introduces pupils to key computing ideas through fun, hands-on offline activities. Designed to build curiosity, partner talk, and group collaboration, this resource is ideal for the first computing lesson of the year or for exploring computing concepts without devices.

What’s included (PDF format):

• Station 1: Be the Robot - one child gives instructions, the other follows as a “robot.” Pupils practise sequencing, debugging, and understanding algorithms through movement.
• Station 2: Technology Detectives (Computer or Not Computer?) – pupils sort everyday objects and pictures into “technology” and “not technology,” discussing what makes something a computer.
• Station 3: Classroom Robot Design - creative drawing activity where pupils design and label their own classroom robot to solve everyday problems.
