Year 2 Measuring Length

This chapter targets the single most common measuring mistake head on: lining an object up with the 1 instead of the 0. Once that’s secure, it moves through reading a ruler in centimetres, knowing when to use centimetres versus metres (a pencil versus a door, a book versus a classroom), and comparing two lengths to find the difference.

Includes a worked explanation, common misconceptions addressed directly (starting from the wrong mark, forgetting to write the unit, mixing centimetres and metres in the same sum), and 30 questions across three sections: warm up, getting stronger and challenge, moving from reading a ruler to worded reasoning problems involving comparison and unit conversion.

Answers included, with a star chart for pupils to track progress and a confidence check-in at the end.
