Growth Mind Set Assembly

Growth Mind Set Assembly

I used this assembly as an introduction to a new whole school drive on improving students numeracy through a tutor time activity called the maths Olympics. The assembly starts with a video which shows photos of a boy from birth to 11. The students were mesmerised by it and it meant they all came in nice and calmly. The assembly looks at the number of days and hours students have been alive and what they have done with their time and focuses on the importance of having a growth mind set to make the most of their time. The assembly lasts around 15 minutes and worked really well. Enjoy

New Words in the Language (Neologisms)

New Words in the Language (Neologisms)

This resource consists of a front cover, a worksheet and an answer sheet. Ideal for engaging learners with new language and spoken language for GCSE English Language or Functional Skills English. The worksheet involves the learners completing a table of 21 new words, providing definitions and deciding if each word is formal or informal. This resource can then lead on to an informal writing task. The learners are asked if they would use each word online, with friends or in a formal environment and this resource promotes lots of discussion. It could be used as preparation for a speaking and listening activity on neologisms. The new words included could allow for a discussion on internet safety.

McCarthyism Revision Cards / Dingbats

McCarthyism Revision Cards / Dingbats

These revision cards cover all the key factors that you will need to know on McCarthyism and the Red Scare. They make an excellent fun starter, mini plenary or plenary to any KS3, KS4 or KS5 lesson. There are three main ways that you can use them. Game 1 involves getting students to read out the key words until the other guesses the topic correctly. Game 2 involves additional challenge and stretch by getting students to describe the topic without using any of the key words on the card. The third game, which adds an additional layer of fun or challenge involves playing a round of Pictionary or Charades. I normally give my students 3 minutes of each round to help activate the learning and warm up the class. You could also have a freestyle round where students decide which game they want to play linked to their learning style. If you are trying to engage some under achieving boys, add some competition and get them to keep score in the back of their books. I would recommend printing them off on card and getting your students to cut them out. Then put the cards into an envelope for class use. If you are a student then keep them in your pocket and use them as a flash card to help you learn the key facts, From a revision perspective, you can print off the cards and get your students to learn the key words for a test or for their exams. These are a win, win resource. The kids will love them and they will help to improve your results! Pictures Prompts For Writing in Arabic + 31 Fun Teaching Activities For These Cards

Welcome to the 'Lets Write in Arabic!' pack. This pack contains a 31 Teaching Activity Teacher Guide using these photo flash cards. These activities are quick and fun to do and will improve both your students' memory and vocabulary skills. There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning Arabic. The students could write about a topic in Arabic before starting a unit, and then write again about the topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic to see how much they have progressed. It could also be used as an introduction to guided writing. Students can write sentences as a class and share the sentences together and they can then write them on their own. Alternatively, students could work in pairs - one student dictates to the other what to write down about what they see in the picture. These pages could also be used to write different stories, using the pictures as a stimulus. ***** Please note - these resources provide visual prompts and support to the students, not direct language instruction **************

Wit or Weight - A story to read in class

Wit or Weight - A story to read in class

An illustrated story that can be turned into a play. It can be read aloud and it can be read quietly. A story with a subtle moral. Definitely a topic for discussion even in a younger class. A colouring in session with lots of ants and elephants is definitely a good activity to accompany this story. Try it out in your class and if you like it, do leave me a comment or a rating.
