AQA A Level Sociology - Theory and Methods Independent Study Booklets

These booklets aim to help students focus their self study and continued revision. They contain worksheets to structure the process which follows the spaced study system. For each topic in this booklet there are the following resources: Topic outline sheet Topic Summary sheets Try to fill in as much of this sheet as you can from your pre-reading and then fill in any gaps (in a different colour) after the lesson. Consolidation / Trigger Sheets These sheets should be completed at first without any notes to see what you remember and have retained on this topic. This will help you to reflect accurately on your understanding of the topic. There are three different sheets for you to try however there are many others as well: Spider Web – each level is a different assessment objective and acts like a structured mind map. Cornell Notes – Breaks down your notes into assessment objectives. Complete using bullet points in the main section and then write a 100 word (approx.) summary containing all AO’s at the bottom. There is space for key terms and key words as well. Brain Dump review – Write down everything you can remember in the brain dump box, then go back to your notes and write down any missing information that you think is important. Anything you are still unsure about goes in the ‘to check’ box for you to focus on later or ask your teacher about. 10 Question Quick Quiz Try to answer without your notes and then use your notes and textbook etc to self check and identify areas you still need to go over. It compliments the Napier Press Sociology book one textbook by Webb, Westergaard, Trobe and Townend and the textbook will be needed for this lesson. I have estimated that this lesson could last between 1 to 2 hours depending on what allocation you have been give time wise. This is my first A Level Sociology resource so feedback is welcome. An induction activity for students studying A level Sociology. I give the students this activity to complete during the summer break between Year 12 and 13 in preparation for the Beliefs in Society module. It gets them thinking about how they will conduct the research. I encourage them to explore some primary research and visit a local religious community. During the lessons, they have a great case study to apply to what they learn, particularly those students that are not members of a religious community.
