SPaG Scoot Game: Indoor or outdoor trail

Are you looking for a fun way to test your children's SPaG skills? This get up and go game is ideal for practising SATs style questions and checking pupils knowledge of the Y2 SPaG curriculum in an active way. All you have to do is print out the 20 A4 question cards (laminate) and set out your trail indoors or outdoors. Children then visit each station in pairs/groups, read the questions, discuss their ideas and record their answers on the sheet provided. I have also used this 'Scoot' game as an activity for parents at our KS1 workshops to give them an idea of the type of questions their children will be given in the end of KS1 SATs. A fun get up and go 'Scoot' game ideal for Year 2 children. Print out the 16 A4 sentence cards (laminate) and position around your classroom or outdoor area. The children visit each station, read the sentence, identify the word from the chosen word group and record it on their record sheet (also a useful activity for reinforcing the four sentence types). A great lesson starter or end of unit/SATs preparation activity. Buy this resource as a bumper package here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spag-pack-for-year-2-11633421

A fun activity that can be carried out indoors or outdoors depending on the weather! All you need to do is print out the clues all linked to well-known story books (laminate) and lay out the trail. Children can work in pairs/teams to answer the questions and decipher the secret message! Answer sheets and certificates included. This activity is editable and would be a great introduction to a reading challenge or a ‘My favourite book day.’

Orienteering/Trail KS1

Are you looking for a fun outdoor activity? This is a very popular activity at my school - all you need to do is print out the 12 stations and laminate (optional!) then position them around your outdoor area. You can provide the children with a map so it is more of an orienteering task or just set it up as a trail. The children then work in groups/pairs to visit each station, read and answer the questions (which are a mix of English, maths, science and geography) recording their answers on the sheet provided along with the blue symbol. At the end of the course the children will have collected 11 letters and station 12 gives them a final hint to work out the secret message. This resource is easily edited to suit your needs and there are certificates included for all children who complete the course!

A great open-ended and flexible activity that will encourage your class to think and reason about number. Add your chosen number to the poster or get the children to roll 2/3 dice to make a number and then ask them to show you what they know about the naughty number on the wanted poster: e.g. 21 is 10 + 10 + 1, 3 x 7, 30 - 9, 63 ÷3 etc More resources @ https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Whitley01/Math

Curious Science Investigators: Can the children decide which object was used to break the caretaker's window? Powerpoint to introduce activity then you need to set out your objects (e.g. rubber duck, woollen gloves, football, brick etc) for children to investigate using the recording sheet. I extended this activity by inviting the children to become Curious Stem Inventors (label included) by giving them a brown paper bag containing objects such as a lollipop stick, an elastic band, a straw, paperclip, marble, newspaper etc and challenging them to invent! Also included is 'Bend me, Shape me' record sheet to investigate the properties of materials and extension activities.
