Students discuss the typical features of a fairytale, watch clips from fairytales and from the TV show ‘Once Upon A Time.’ Students eventually write a story about a fairytale character in the real world. Tasks and questions are differentiated throughout and there is a help sheet to support lower ability students with structuring their answer. Lesson uses the poems ‘Poppies’ and ‘Remains’ and students are asked to think about the key themes, similarities and differences and then eventually answer a differentiated exam style question (3 question choices.) Lesson is aimed at getting students interested in the news by making it fun and interesting. Lesson asks students to think about the way they can access the news and why news is important. Students then watch and discuss the news before writing and presenting their own news report on a current topic. Aimed at KS3 students but can easily be adapted to suit older students. Differentiated using the GCSE mark scheme and aim/challenge/super challenge.
