This introductory lesson starts with the all important Prologue in Romeo and Juliet. There are several activities that you can do with your students in the power point using the Prologue attachment as well. Then as you continue through the lesson there are PEE structure questions and a model PEE paragraph on the tragedy of the play Romeo and Juliet. In addition, there are some great music links (internet access needed) that will get your students excited and engaged in analysing Romeo and Juliet. I had students from other classes trying to come into my lesson when I played these music gems.

This Shakespeare Research Booklet is a fantastic resource for introducing students into the world of Shakespeare. Every teacher struggles with how to teach the all important context section of the Shakespeare topic, and how to make it actually interesting. Well, here is the way to do it, and all you will need for one to two lessons is either a computer room or a Shakespeare book box from your school library. This booklet will teach the context for you, as it has key questions for the students to research, fun activities to complete, key quotations to understand, and a glossary the students can fill out.

Sentence Structure Lesson - Gothic Creative Writing

This sentence structure lesson is designed to show students how using a variety of sentences can create a certain effect on the reader. Here I have used 'The Boy' horror movie trailer to create my own descriptive piece of writing which focuses on building an image using descriptive language and a variation of sentences. Once students have read the description and discussed why this description is effective you move on to watching the trailer (access to the internet needed), and then get the students to continue the original description using the success criteria, trailer, their imagination, and the original descriptive piece of writing for aid.

PEE and Assessment Preparation - A Christmas Carol

PEE preparation power point for A Christmas Carol. This Power point goes very well with 'The Little Book of PEE For A Christmas Carol' as it takes students through the question they will be answering and includes PEE structures, model paragraphs, and a mark scheme (Based on the new 1-9). However it also works as a standalone resource, as it goes through how to pick out key quotations in a text, and leaves the teacher room to analyse them with the students.
