I am an English teacher with several years experience of working in 6th forms. I was recommended by my Head of Department to share my resources on TES after he consistently praised my lessons and schemes of work for how easy they are for teachers to use and access them. I pride myself on my planning, and make sure each slide of each lesson is aesthetically pleasing, with a clear title, main task, and usually an extension task.

John Donne poetry SoW

(1)
A complete Scheme of Work to teach the poetry of John Donne. Includes context lessons. Most poems are given their own lesson but some are 2 per lesson if there are obvious links, for example. The slides consist of a clear title, main task, and extension task, and have a variety of tasks in each lesson - engaging starters, discussion, group work, quote finding, extract analysis, and evaluative plenaries.

A Streetcar Named Desire full SoW

(5)
A full scheme of work for teaching Tennessee William’s A Streetcar Named Desire at English Literature. Includes two context lessons, two lessons on Scenes 1 and 3 and then one lesson per scene for the rest. Activities include quote finding, extract analysis, discussion tasks, group work, and evaluative plenaries. The lessons invite students to analyse the text as a play rather than just a written text by linking to the conventions of a tragedy, dramatic techniques, and stagecraft. Check out my other Streetcar resources: revision lessons, blocking characters, and a bundle of the whole lot!

The Handmaid's Tale English Literature SoW

(2)
Full SoW for teaching Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, including full lessons, context, and some wider reading articles. Planned for Edexcel’s Literature A Level to be compared with Frankenstein, but easily adaptable. I have where possible linked events in the novel to real world events and/or current affairs, to make the text as relevant as possible. The slides consist of a clear title, main task, and extension task, and have a variety of tasks in each lesson - engaging starters, discussion, group work, quote finding, extract analysis, and evaluative plenaries.

Frankenstein SoW A Level Literature KS5

(6)
A whole SoW for teaching Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, aimed at Edexcel’s Literature spec, including two lessons outlining key context. These lessons were planned to be at comparing with The Handmaid’s Tale, but can be easily adapted for other specs if needed. There are two or three chapters covered in each lesson, with a focus on extract analysis, literary terms, and contextual links reinforced throughout (such as how Shelley’s writing fits in to other Romantic writing). Most lessons end with a slide to consider three links to The Handmaid’s Tale. The slides consist of a clear title, main task, and extension task, and have a variety of tasks in each lesson - engaging starters, discussion, group work, quote finding, extract analysis, and evaluative plenaries.

A complete scheme of work of lessons and resources. Aimed at A Level/KS5 English Language OCR Paper 2 Section C - Language Change, exploring variations in language from 1600 to the present. All lessons should come with necessary texts to analyse, as well as links to clips or videos. Most slides include extension tasks. Note: This is several weeks’ worth of lessons, so ‘Lesson 1’ is not for all the same lesson, but might be Week 1 Lesson 1, Week 2 Lesson 1 etc, but appear in order
