Hi! I'm the Deputy Head at a SEN school in Central London. I teach English and PSHE as well as leading on cyber safety as a CEOP ambassador. A number of these resources may seem a little off the wall but I try to make resources as unique and entertaining as possible. Enjoy (in moderation)

Werewolf article lesson

This fun (and gory!) lesson asks students to read some witness statements about one of the earliest reports of a werewolf! The students break down the witness statements and compare their similarities and differences before using their summaries to write an article about the event on the provided 'Metro' template. There are some follow-up questions as a research homework or extension task.

A Complaint - Relationships Poetry resource (SEN friendly)

This pack features a comprehensive breakdown of the poem 'A Complaint'. The poem is broken down, line by line, stanza by stanza into manageable chunks for the students. The completed work packs, once completed, function as excellent revision guides for the students. There are two separate work packs - A is more challenging than B in order to stretch certain learners. I have used these in my SEN school and students who previously struggled with poetry concepts flew through the lessons.

These resources are a perfect way to help students, particularly those with SEN needs or low literacy levels, build their understanding of the characters and events of 'An Inspector Calls' Here are 5 mini work packs to help students decide if the Birlings (and Gerald of course) are guilty (or not guilty) for the death of Eva Smith. Each character has their own mini pack which contains: 1) A picture sequencing task 2) A text sequencing task linked to the picture sequencing task 3) A written role play task where the student imagines they are the character being grilled in court. 4) A structured paragraph task 5) An extension 'exam style' question I have also included a printable mat and character cards which are useful to use whilst reading the play. The students can order the characters from least to most moral at various teacher let points in the reading. I have also included a printable writing support sheet to help students complete the structured writing task.

'Guardians of the Grammar-xy' - Making learning grammar out of this world!

Guardians of the Galaxy...have returned! But not as we were expecting... This game is a fun way to explore basic grammar and punctuation skills. The game takes the form of a mission where the students have to complete a series of tasks. Each mission unlocks a character from the space jail, culminating in a code breaking task. The game is a fun way to engage pupils with focusing on basic literacy skills in a way that is fun and engaging. Once downloaded, the games can be differentiated up or down to meet the needs of your students. Would particularly recommend for SEN pupils or disengaged pupils. There is a student and teacher copy included in the PDF and Powerpoint versions. It is very self explanatory-the mission reads like a story with instructions for each section. The teacher copy has the answers on it!

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - SEN friendly version

This is an SEN friendly version of the 'Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' text. I have begun using this with my students and it is proving hugely successful. Throughout, there are images to help students visualise what is happening in the story. I have also edited the story to keep the key events in the text yet making it a little more condensed for those who find reading the oft difficult language more challenging. The text has also been double spaced to help dyslexic students.

Cyber Safety - Online Grooming and how to prevent it

This is a presentation I deliver as a trained CEOP/Thinkuknow ambassador. This presentation is aimed at training staff but can easily be adapted to be delivered to students and/or parents. The presentation is broken in to 5 sections: Section 1: Introduction to online grooming. There is a pre-session knowledge test of key vocabulary which can be added to during the session, or alternatively turned into flash cards. Section 2: The first of 3 True or False questions. The first section focuses on how avatars and online role player games can be abused by online groomers. There are examples of concerning sites and information on the Proteus Effect. Section 3: This focuses on the acronyms and emojis that young people use to communicate about sexual behaviour. There is a easy to follow explanation of how groomers operate. Then, there is a grid with the acronyms allowing the participants to guess before giving the answers. Section 4: This focuses on bringing the learning together and looking at transcripts of chats to analyse the warning signs. There are 3 different chats, 2 with translation in cases of difficulty understanding, all of which model how online grooming can take place. Section 5: Summarises the issues and offers advice for professionals and parents on how to educate young people on the dangers online.

A fun and light hearted game that will have even the most Maths-phobic student eagerly turning the pages! Minion Maths sees the Minions taking on the despicable El Macho en route to Paris! At each turn, students are required to consolidate their knowledge of a functional maths skill with a fun maths puzzle. This game can be adapted easily to simplify the puzzles or, if you are feeling really mean, make them harder! This game is tried and tested to engage all students but particularly those with SEN needs such as dyscalculia. Whether it is a fun way to end the week or an exciting way to embed the basics, Minion Maths is guaranteed to have your maths students engaged.

Cyber Safety - Potential dangers of applications

This is an interactive presentation which can be differentiated for staff and students. As a stand alone staff training session or a PSHE lesson, the presentation focuses on the most popular applications available for young people and the potential risks that they face. The presentation provides information on 31 applications and how to safely use them. It has also gives details on how to speak to young people about app safety, cut out cards on key vocabulary, web links to useful sites and is all supported with visual cues. I am a trained CEOP ambassador and have delivered this for staff, parents and students. If you would like to verify my understanding on the topic, please read my cyber safety and PSHE related blogs at this link: http://www.tis-london.org/blog/
Angry Words! A brand new interactive game that teaches students about word classes.

Angry Words! A brand new interactive game that teaches students about word classes.

(0)
This exciting game is a whodunnit utilising the popular characters from the Angry Birds games. The 'Angry Words!' are all different word classes. Each of the 8 puzzles will help students to learn how to spot and differentiate between the different word classes. Students begin by matching the Angry Words character to their 'character description' which is really a definition for their word class. For example, Colonel Ective is 'Connective'. The 8 puzzles must be solved to crack the case of the missing egg and will test pupils' ability to recognise 8 different word classes. By completing the puzzles, students will be able to whittle down the potential criminals using the suspect grid. The powerpoint can be differentiated up or down and features the answers. Depending on your students abilities, the game could last one to three lessons. It could also be repeated over time to consolidate learning!
