This lesson is based on the Activate 2 (P2.2) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson covers the law of conservation of energy, different energy stores, energy transfer and dissipation. Learning is assessed at 3 stages using think pair and share, an energy store match up, and a 4 mark question to answer. Students are scaffolded up to each task, and answers are included to allow self/peer assessment. The practical activity involves 6 small experiments that the students must visit, observe energy transfers and explain their observations within a table. Extension questions are included for those who finish early, again the answers are included within the slides. The plenary involves students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives.

A full, differentiated lesson based on the new AQA (B4.2) SOW. This lesson starts off with a brief video to introduce the topic and then covers arteries, veins and capillaries in detail. Student understanding is checked via a differentiated question grid challenge. Students then attempt a past paper question (9 marks) and peer/self mark. The lesson then covers double circulation and its advantages. Another PP question is used for students to apply their learning. Peer/self marking facilitates AFL. A plenary question involves students comparing the efficiency of a fishes circulatory system to our own. Again this can be self/peer assessed. Students then finally reflect on their learning progress against the learning objectives. All answers are included within the slides, and timers are used to promote pace. LO are ranked based on the new 1-9 system.

This is a full differentiated lesson based on the new AQA (B4.1) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson starts with a short video on blood components to incite interest. There is then a short talk on blood plasma, RBCs, WBC and platelets - students fill in a table as you progress through the slides. Students then apply their knowledge to a differentiated question grid challenge, and self/peer mark. The practical is based on students using microscopes to observe blood components (microscopes and preprepared slides required) and answering questions. A stretch activity is included for the more able, again answers are included to facilitate self/peer marking. The plenary consists of students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives, peers can select one another to share answers.

A full differentiated lesson based on the Activate 2 (P2.1) SOW but can be used for others. This lesson introduces the Joule and how to calculate kJ's. Energy in different food products are compared by the students with questions and a DART activity to check for understanding. The energy requirements of different activities are then compared prior to a discussion on the balance of energy. Students then take part in a 'beat the grid' challenge answering as many differentiated questions as they can within 10 minutes. A worksheet exercise then takes place to apply and reinforce knowledge based on the content of the lesson. The plenary is based on students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives. This lesson includes timers and animation to promote pace, and all answers are included in the slides to facilitate self/peer marking. This lesson also promotes the correct use of literacy and numeracy through the activities included.

A complete lesson based on the Activate 2 (P1.8) SOW but can be used for others. Students are introduced to the uses of electromagnets with examples, video is used to incite their interest further. An introduction to motors is included (a demonstration is useful here). Students then take part in an information hunt to apply and reinforce their learning - answers included. Using Ipads students then conduct independent research on recycling and electromagnets, producing a leaflet which can be judged by peers. Students then take part in a Kahoot quiz on the topic of electromagnets (free log in and Ipads required). The plenary consists of students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives, a soft toy can be thrown around to elect who reads out their answer. HW sheet and info hunt taken from TES. This can be a very fun and engaging lesson in a well managed class! Student understanding is checked with past paper exam questions. The lesson then outlines how the body regulates pH within digestion, and students are again directed to past paper questions. This is repeated for the regulation of surface area (emulsification). All answers are incorporated into the slides allowing for peer assessment. This lesson is based on the new AQA SOW (B3.6) but can be used for others. This lesson includes the required practical. The lesson outlines key information relating to the digestive system and enzymes, students fill in a table handout during the presentation of these slides. The table is then self/peer marked to ensure key information is present. The practical is then introduced (a brief demonstration may be beneficial here) to and conducted by the students. Those who finish in good time are prompted to draw a graph and identify the variables within the experiment. An extra stretch is based on students suggesting improvements to the techniques used during the experiment. This is followed by a discussion of results and ‘what should of been seen’. The plenary is based on students reflecting on their progress against the learning objectives, and sharing this with the class.

This lesson is based on the Activate 1 (P2.4) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson begins with the structure of the ear, and how we hear. Students complete their handout of the ear as you progress through the first few slides prior to a summary and correction of answers. There is then a 'gap fill' DART activity to check for understanding. The lesson then progresses to damage of hearing and how we measure sound (dB). The microphone is then compared to the ear, students must then answer a 'focus writing' task where they use their knowledge from the lesson to compare and contrast the ear and the microphone. The plenary is based on students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives, and sharing their answers with peers - throwing round a soft toy is a fun way of doing this. All answers/animations/timers included within the slides.

Students are then introduced to food chains, webs and trophic levels prior to a final 'question grid challenge' with differentiated questions based on the learning objective of the lesson.
