About Ellesmere College

Ellesmere College is a mixed, all-through independent Church of England day and boarding school, situated in Ellesmere, Shropshire. There are approximately 556 pupils at the school, between the ages of 7-18. The school is made up of a lower school and upper school with sixth form.

Ellesmere College was founded in 1884, formerly an all-boys school until a girls’ boarding house opened in 1984. The school has expanded over the years, with current facilities including an arts centre, music school and design and technology centre – Modern sports hall, 25m swimming pool, tennis barn, fitness suite, astro-turf and shooting range.  It now has seven boarding houses, four catering for 6th form students, and three for compulsory school age pupils. Ellesmere College is a member of the Woodard Schools – the largest group of Church of England Schools across England and Wales.

Ellesmere College is now one of the community of schools across the world that has adopted the High Performance Learning approach based on the work of Deborah Eyre. This doesn't change what we teach but it will influence the approach we take to showing pupils how to learn. We believe that every child has the potential to be an effective learner and with self-belief, and a good toolbox to draw from, they can achieve greater success at their learning, and become confident about learning for life. Independent School Inspectorate

“The school takes active steps to promote the personal development of the pupils. Pupils develop self-esteem and self-confidence through the various support and reward systems, through aesthetic subjects such as art, music and drama, and during quiet times to reflect on their own circumstances. The PSHE programme ensures that citizenships elements enable pupils to gain a broad understanding of public services and institutions in England and the role of government”.
