A CALM DAY
Subject: English
Age range: 3-5
Resource type: Worksheet/Activity

Teacher’s Guide & Implementation Manual: “A Calm Day”
Target Audience: Special Education Needs (SEND) & Early Childhood (Ages 3–7)
Core Approach: Low-Sensory, Predictable, and Wordless (Silent Book) Methodology
“How does Bobo feel right now?”
“What do you think happens next?”
Strategy B: Sequencing & Cognitive Skills (Logical Thinking)
What to do: Mix up the sequence of the five illustration cards and place them in front of the student.
Task: Ask the child to arrange the cards in chronological order (First waking up, stretching, drinking water in the garden, having a quiet snack, and finally hugging together). This builds executive function, temporal awareness, and logical ordering skills.
Strategy C: Emotion Recognition & Self-Regulation
What to do: Focus on the facial expressions and body language of the characters across the scenes.
Task: Discuss emotional transitions. Point out how the characters start with a calm morning greeting, move through gentle stretching, and achieve a state of peace and connection. Use this to teach children how to identify calm body states versus anxious ones.
Strategy D: Customized Teacher/Parent Prompts (Writing Space)
What to do: The top or bottom margins of the 20x28 cm format are intentionally left clean.
Task: Teachers or speech therapists can write short, direct instructions, target vocabulary words, or individualized communication symbols (PECS) tailored to the student’s specific learning goals.
