A lesson that introduces the new specification AQA English language Paper 1.
The lesson focuses on an extract from The Return of Sherlock Holmes.

Students practise their scanning skills and then apply this to the four mark question. They also focus on the difference between implicit and explicit meaning.

This is also an opportunity to introduce students to the genre conventions of different texts. The aim is to ensure that students have a toolkit of devices that they will look for dependent on the genre of the unseen text that they are presented with in the exam. This lesson covers the conventions of the crime genre.
