This Reading Comprehension / Informational Text is suitable for advanced to proficient ESL learners or native English speakers.

The text explores whether protesting and/or rioting can succeed in bringing about social change. From the 2020 George Floyd protests back to Ghandi’s peaceful opposition to British Imperial Rule the text gives an account of the social reforms achieved by violent and non-violent protests and why it is important to focus on the cause of the protests in order to stop social injustice.
