This is a 24-page bundle of resources (reading and writing) based on the joyous book “Every Night at Midnight” by Peter Cheong. This book has been shortlisted for “Picture Book of the Year” in 2024, by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

This beautiful, heart-warming story introduces us to Felix, a boy who turns into a wolf every night. When Felix is a wolf, he feels brave and strong…unlike how he often feels at school all day. It is a tender story about the importance of friendship and being yourself.

The unit of work contains open-ended resources aimed at Stages K-6.

The bundle contains:

  • three specialised student workbooks with targeted comprehension questions. The workbooks are customised for Stages 1, 2 and 3 so they allow for differentiation in your classroom.

  • an integrated writing task based on the book. Writing comes in the form of an open-ended writing stimulus presented in a booklet. I use stand-alone activities like this in my classroom as assessment tools, either at the beginning or the end of a unit of work. This writing task is imaginative.

  • a set of ten no-prep printable Literature Circle task cards. Tasks contain a high degree of student choice and are designed to be high-interest and engaging to allow for independent class work. All associated resources are included.

  • all associated printables, which include researching, writing and Visual Arts tasks.

** What makes Literacy Guru resources different?**

At the core of my units lies a deep understanding of the unique qualities of each text. I meticulously dissect the text to target the individual skills necessary for students to comprehend and engage with the material effectively.

You won’t find any generic, filler activities like find-a-words or colouring tasks in my store. My resources are based on years of research and practice, specialising in the field of Australian literacy, and based on curriculum outcomes. Students are required to think deeply about each individual book and its unique features.

I have many other literature-based resources in my store (most of them based on Australia texts) so feel free to check them out.
