The single PPT is split clearly into 3 lessons. This will be useful at the beginning of a KS3 scheme of work on the Gothic.

1] Creepy creative writing starter first. Then common features and ideas of the gothic are introduced using images and a video. An extract exemplifying gothic writing is used at the end of the lesson to transfer the ideas pupils have obtained from looking at images to text. This task needs completing for homework.

2] After the starter, the homework is reviewed. Then an example of language/structure analysis is considered. Pupils then move onto some annotation of pre-selected quotations and writing their own paragraphs of analysis.

3] After the starter, pupils alter a piece of writing which is not in a gothic style into something that is quintessentially gothic. Green pen peer-assessment follows before pupils continue to develop their writing, adding 2 more paragraphs.
